Different Number of News Sources in Google News US Discovered

Philipp Lenssen (yes again, get used to it) has some research work too sweet to be ignored.

He has done an excellent job indexing Google News USA news sources, Google itself claims 4500 sources, but Philipp has found what seems to be at least double this number.

“To find out how much (and what) they really index, for the past days I polled roughly 1,4 million news stories per day by searching Google News for semi-random words every few minutes. I found over 8,600 unique news sources in Google News and made them available for sorting & searching.”, says Philipp of Blogoscoped.
